About Canderel

“The journey of Canderel has been nothing short of incredible. I founded this company with a strong belief that we could make a difference in the world of real estate, and today, I’m proud to see that we have achieved that goal. Our commitment to delivering exceptional value and creating thriving communities, with a talented organization invested in doing what’s right, has and continues to be the driving force behind our success.”

—  Jonathan Wener
Chairman

History

An even mix of youthful passion, entrepreneurial torque and relentless work ethic created an idea. An idea that would develop and grow into one of Canada’s most powerful real estate firms.

In 1975, when our Chairman Jonathan Wener created Canderel at age 25, he likely had no idea what it would turn into; part of North America’s real estate landscape.

He did, however, know that his new company would always strive to create value for clients, enhance communities and be quick on its feet—regardless of the project. He wasn’t far off.

We’re invested in creating value while keeping true to our core values. Recently, several initiatives contributed to the realignment of Canderel’s ESG pillars relative to our guiding principles.

The Défi Canderel Challenge — known as Défi Canderel in Québec and as Canderel Challenge in the rest of Canada — is Canderel’s corporate philanthropic endeavour in support of cancer research. Through this initiative, each Canderel office across Canada hosts an annual fundraising campaign in support of a local cancer centre, challenging staff, business partners and friends to donate and raise funds for research.

Since its inception in 1989, this philanthropic activity has raised over $25 million for Canadian cancer centres, with 2.4 million in 2023 alone. These funds have been invested in various ways, including: the funding of innovative research projects; the creation and awarding of scholarships, fellowships and bursaries for students and researchers; the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment and technology; and the funding of other priority needs. Every year, this donation is made with no strings attached, enabling beneficiaries to invest the funds in their most urgent and priority needs.
