After three years of planning and preparation, the partnership created by the Tsuut’ina Nation and Canderel announced a significant milestone with the commencement of the first phase of the Taza development project. Located immediately adjacent to the southwest border of the city of Calgary and totalling 1,200 acres, Taza is one of the largest First Nations developments in North America.
Chief Lee Crowchild described the announcement as momentous and said, “This signifies another major step forward for Taza and is reflective of the economic and social vision the Tsuut’ina Nation and its leadership have had for decades.” For Canderel, the Taza development represents a unique opportunity to combine our extensive development experience with our history of creating successful, long-term partnerships.
The first phase of Taza features The Shops at Buffalo Run, a 45-acre major retail centre offering 400,000 sf of retail, entertainment and restaurant spaces including a 150,000 sf Costco – the first to be located in a First Nations’ development! This will be Costco’s sixth store in the Calgary market and is expected to be open by the summer of 2020.
